PAPADU PAPADU is an American-born artist of Nigerian descent, with a rich heritage that includes Edo, Yoruba, Michika, and Bakweri ancestry. Raised somewhat distanced from these roots, PAPADU embarked on a transformative journey to reconnect with his cultural heritage. His pursuit of this identity was profoundly influenced by his architectural background from Yale University, as well as by personal growth stemming from his father’s battle with cancer. This path has shaped PAPADU's distinctive artistic style, which fuses traditional African art with cutting-edge digital techniques. PAPADU’s work, known for its abstract and surreal compositions, explores the complexity and beauty of the human form. Over the past decade, and particularly in his role as Lead Artist and Creative Director at REAL INTELLIGENCE / HUMAN LEARNING (RI/HL) Studio over the past two years, PAPADU has developed a multifaceted artistic process. His expertise spans photo manipulation, digital painting, 3D modeling, animation, motion design, compositing, collage, and AI Animation. This blend of digital artistry and traditional techniques allows him to create dynamic and expressive pieces that reflect both his personal journey and cultural heritage. His work has garnered international acclaim, being featured at high-profile events such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup Fan Festival in Doha, Qatar, 2023 London Fashion Week, and Lagos' immersive experience "Nothing Is Unreal." PAPADU’s debut 2D series, "Proverbial Forms | Chapter I | Visions of Heritage," merges ancient proverbs with artistic interpretations, showcasing his deep connection to his roots and his innovative approach to visual storytelling. This series serves as a vibrant celebration of his identity, offering viewers a modern perspective on the rich cultural heritage of Africa.
